We're currently seeking an independently contracted horse carriage driver to cover our evening shift tours!
Requirements:
•Must have a valid NYC Horse Drawn Cab Driver License (The NYC DOHMH holds the DCWP licensing exam course several times each year. It’s held in person, over two days, approximately one week apart. It requires you pre-register with a $25 application fee, be 18+ years of age, & hold a valid US automobile drivers license. We can help you register & prepare for the exam, and upon receiving your certification, train to drive & care for our horses!)
•Must have compassion towards animals, as our horses welfare and safety are of an utmost priority.
•Must be comfortable around horses and attentive to their various signals. (Experience working with, riding, or driving horses is a big plus.)
•Must be willing & able to learn our horses unique, individual requirements to be cared for and driven safely.
•Must be in decent physical shape, capable of being on feet for hours at a time, climbing up to the carriage drivers seat, as well as jumping down from it, and have the strength to carry out general tasks, such as lifting a saddle over your head or carrying a bucket containing 5 gallons of water. You will also need to have fast reflexes.
•Must be willing to work evenings in all outdoor weather our horses can handle.
•Must be of trustworthy character with good work ethics. (Strong organizational skills are a plus.)
•Must follow all New York City laws & regulations set for horse carriage drivers.
•Must be confident in safely commuting with our horses between the park and stable.
•Must be able to communicate with customers in English in a professional and polite manner. (Speaking additional languages is also a plus.)
•Must have knowledge about or be able & willing to learn Central Park’s history, attractions, filming locations, & surrounding buildings.
•Must be able to professionally handle criticisms from people misinformed about our business.
