Our Horses

Our customers are very important to us,
but our horses welfare and happiness will always come first.

All our horses work under New York City regulations enforced by the
NYPD Mounted Unit and the New York Health Department’s equine veterinarians.

Our horses receive mandatory veterinary exams at least twice a year, have their hooves trimmed & shod by a farrier every four to six weeks, and are groomed daily.

They are out to work for a maximum of nine hours per twenty four period including their breaks between rides for rest, water, and food. They even receive a minimum of five weeks vacation on pastures in rural Pennsylvania or upstate New York each year.

Our horses don’t work above 89°F or 80°F + high humidity, below 19°F, or in harsh blizzards and other weather extremes. During the winter months they are blanketed between rides when the temperature drops to 40°F and they receive rain blankets in wet weather below 55°F.

During the summer months they’re pampered with frequent showers at their stables to cool down. Hot water is available during the cold weather.
They reside in large, frequently mucked-out box stalls lined with rubber mats and straw or woodchip bedding, with unlimited water and hay, under the watchful eye of 24/7 stablemen, at rent steeper than the cost of our own homes!
We spoil them with carrot treats, wither scratches, and light work they enjoy.
